Zip-lining is a popular shore excursion for the more adventurous cruise passenger. I mean, who wouldn’t want to soar high above the ground with only a rope between you and the ground and…well you know the rest.
I am juuust kidding, it is really a rewarding experience and I think almost everyone should try it, however, there are a few things to know before you go.
- There is usually a weight limit of 240 to 250 pounds. If you are above this weight you will not be allowed to participate.
- There is a minimum age, usually 8 years old. Maybe this would be a good time to have someone in your party stay back with the younger children so you can fully enjoy the experience.
- Pregnant women and guests with heart problems, knee problems, back/neck/shoulder injuries will not be allowed to join in the fun.
- Make sure you wear closed-toed shoes. You also might want to consider pants, and definitely bring some bug spray.
- There is some walking involved. You will have to walk between the different zip lines, and this does include walking up-hill which can be strenuous. Make sure you research the area to pick the best port of call for you to zip-line.
This is a thrilling excursion that will definitely be an adrenaline-filled memory. Be safe, have fun and zip-zip away!
If sailing down a zip-line through the trees sounds a bit daunting, maybe you could try it onboard your cruise ship? Yes, on Royal Caribbean’s revolutionary Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas you can actually zip-line through the Boardwalk Neighborhood…now that is WOW. Check out more here.

Stepping onboard Royal Caribbean’s mega-ships, the Oasis or Allure of the Seas, could be intimidating for some. These ships are truly cities on water. There is so much to see and do it is hard to figure out just what to do first.
The Central Park Neighborhood on these marvels absolutely needs to be on your list of areas onboard to see first. You won’t be able to believe you are still on a cruise ship.
- The first thing I fell in love
with is all the greenery. Royal Caribbean brings the outdoors in with Central Park, a revolutionary design in which the center of the ship opens to the sky and features lush, tropical grounds spanning more than the length of a football field.
- The sun shines down from above and there are so many quiet, tucked away places to sit and relax among trees, bushes, and tranquil gardens. This is a perfect place to read a book or just take a few moments to relax and enjoy some solitude.
- This area also boasts some
wonderful shops. My two favorite boutiques are Coach and the Britto Art Gallery. I must say I brought home a little something from both, my husband was thrilled
.Truly one of the most relaxing shopping experience I have ever had.
- Two upper-scale specialty
restaurants are also located in Central Park. Chops Grille is the first restaurant which offers a fabulous menu of steak and seafood dishes. I would recommend the Grilled Alaskan Halibut. This a one of a kind dining experience from the décor to the menu and service.
- 150 Central Park, the most
exclusive dining venue on the ship, provides an intimate dining experience. This warm setting offers a multicourse tasting-style menu which is paired beautifully with their wine tasting program. Whichever restaurant you choose, there is no way you can go wrong.
- Also enjoy Vintages Bar, Trellis Bar, and Park Café. The Central Park Neighborhood is a wonderful place to unwind from a busy and eventful day.
- I loved this area so much
the next time I sail on the Oasis or Allure of the Seas, I will do so in a Central Park balcony (I previously sailed in the Boardwalk Balcony, what an experience!). These balconies actually look to the interior of the ship into the park. So you can enjoy this serene area even from your balcony.

Royal Caribbean certainly did an outstanding job designing their two mega-ships, the Oasis and Allure of the Seas. I was impressed, but not overwhelmed, with all of the entertainment and activities offered onboard.
The one area of the ship that always seemed alive and busting at the seams with excitement was the Boardwalk Neighborhood.
- This area on the back of the
ship is a modern-day, sea-going version of an amusement park reminiscent of Coney Island. With restaurants, shops, carnival games and fun memories to boot. The focal point of the Boardwalk is a traditional, full-size, handcrafted carousel, the only carousel at sea!
- But I must talk about
the AquaTheater first. The shows are absolutely amazing from water acrobats to high-diving aerial performances. It was almost terrifying how acrobatic the stunts were, and they’re on a moving ship! I mean they were diving from very high platforms and objects and making it look effortless.
- My favorite part was I got
to watch these mind-blowing shows from my own private balcony. I had an interior facing Boardwalk Balcony stateroom overlooking over the Boardwalk Neighborhood. The crazy part? You could watch all the action below, but as soon as you shut your balcony door…peace and quiet. Talk about great soundproofing!
- This area is also an unbelievably
fun place for the kids. They can take a ride on the carousel, or try one of the two rock climbing walls or if you look up you will probably see someone trying their luck at the zip-line that sails above the neighborhood. This was also quite amusing to watch from my balcony. Some folks looked absolutely terrified going across the sky.
- The Boardwalk Neighborhood also
boasts a ton of great dining options. Johnny Rockets is always a favorite for your good old burger and milk shake. Check out Rita’s Cantina for some spicy Mexican flavor, or the Seafood Shack, Ice Cream Parlor, Donut Shop, or Boardwalk Bar. This is a great area to grab lunch or dinner. Just remember, some of these spots charge a small fee.
I am lucky enough to have sailed on both the Oasis and Allure of the Seas and honestly there was nothing I didn’t enjoy, but I must say the Boardwalk Neighborhood was a favorite of mine. And remember if you like being in the middle of it all, consider a Boardwalk View Balcony.
