Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes….If you know  the tune that goes along with this, then you are sure to have been around young children recently.

For me, it seems like every toy my son plays with has some version of this song. And since I find myself singing it in my head all the time, I thought I would share that joy with you.

But it also got me thinking about cruising. A bit of a stretch you say? Probably, but here it goes anyway.

Head - Going on a cruise is one of the best ways to clear your head of all that burdens you. Sure you can connect to those burdens if you want, but the cost of using your mobile phone and the ship email may make you think twice about it. Besides, you are on vacation. Leave the email to next week when you get back.

Shoulders – The spas on today’s cruise ships are phenomenal. Nothing removes the stress from your shoulders like a deep tissue massage (followed by a fun fruity drink with an umbrella!).

Knees – How about a quick workout in a world class gym? Take a walk/run on one of the many treadmills followed by circuit training and free weights and then, if you have enough left in the tank, how about some yoga or Pilates? For the record, I no longer make fun of yoga and Pilates as exercise, since they both humbled me on a Panama Canal cruise a couple of years ago.

Toes - Nothing says vacation to my wife like a manicure and pedicure with an ocean view!

Now the song continues, Eyes, and Ears and Mouth and Nose…

Eyes – There are few things quite as beautiful as cruising through the Norwegian Fjords, Alaska and the Hawaiian Islands (not to mention Europe, South America , Bermuda…the list goes on and on).

Ears – For me, the sounds of the ocean are mesmerizing. I even hear them all night coming from a sheep in my son’s room, but that is another story.

Mouth – Filet, Lobster, Chocolate Melting Cake, Bananas Foster, need I say more?

Nose – Let’s see…all of the items listed under “mouth”; the smell of eucalyptus in the spa; fresh flowers unique to your cruise destinations; a vintage wine presented by your sommelier; and for me the smell of the beach and ocean lets me know I am on vacation!

There it goes again. Can you hear it? “Head, Shoulders…” Hmm, I guess it’s time for my next cruise.

Share and Enjoy
