Does Holland America Line Offer Youth Programs Onboard?

Oh yes! Holland America offers a wide variety of youth and teen activities for the younger cruisers, ages 3-17. With supervised and fun activities for your little ones, the entire family can have the cruise vacation of a lifetime!

Good to know:

  • All activities are supervised by a youth coordinators that are permanent, full-time staff, and are designed to be kid friendly and age appropriate. Youth Staff hold degrees in education, childhood development, recreation, leisure studies or related fields.
  • On the Prinsendam, youth activities are offered for ages 5 – 17. All other ships the ages are 3 -17. Children in pull-ups or diapers are not allowed in the youth facilities.
  • Kids and Teen Culinary Arts Center Program/workshops offer children a unique and fun way to learn basic cooking techniques including how to follow recipe instructions and kitchen safety. This is not only a lot of fun but they will have to think about numbers, measuring and time management.  These workshops are geared toward the 2 younger age groups (ages 3 – 14), teens 15 and older can participate in the adult classes.
  • The classes are usually limited to 15 students unless otherwise noted. All classes are hands-on.  Each student receives copies of the recipes prepared in class.  All classes are complimentary and last approximately an hour.
  • The youth programs/activities are available even while the ship is in port during the hours of 8am – 4pm; lunch is served between 11am – 1pm.
  • There is after-hour babysitting or group sitting between 10pm – 12am at a charge of $5 per hour, per child. Children must be 3 years old and potty trained.  Limited private babysitting is available; arrangements can be made at the guest services desk.
  • Children with special needs are very welcome to participate in their age appropriate activities. Please make Holland America aware of this prior to sailing.

Club HAL (tweens) – ages 8 to 12

Putt-putt golf lessons—Disco parties—On-deck sports events—Scavenger Hunts—Ping-pong

For children sailing on any of the Alaskan itineraries, they will participate in the National Park Service Jr. Ranger Program.

The Loft and The Oasis (teens) — ages 13 to 17

Karaoke—Teen Disco—Video games—Teen sports tournaments—Card games—Trivia contests—Bingo
