Best Time to Take a Cruise to the Bahamas

Cruises sail to the beautiful Bahamas year round (woo hoo!).

You can jump on a 3 or 4 night sailing from Port Canaveral or Miami pretty much whenever you would like. Even several 7 night sailings have a port of call in Nassau.

Here are some ideas on the best time to visit the Bahamas on a cruise:

  • If we are talking about weather the best time to visit is March through June. The temperature is warm but not too hot just yet. It is ideal for outdoor activities or spending time on the beach. March can also be a time when weather at home can still be chilly from leftover winter so what a great time to escape to somewhere warm and sunny!
  • July and August can get pretty hot so if you visit during this time you may want to look into shore excursions in an air conditioned environment or near the water.
  • September and October are two of the more active months for hurricanes, however, this is typically the least expensive time to go. The temperature and water will still be warm and you can save a buck or two. Please note if a hurricane is out at sea, the cruise lines will re-route around it so no one is in harm’s way.
  • If you decide to visit during the winter months you should hopefully have warm weather, but it can be cool and windy at times. Of course chilly to a traveler probably depends on what kind of weather they just left at home!  If you travel this time of year do not expect to spend time in the ocean. The water will be way too cold to hang out in.

Really the Bahamas are a popular travel spot year round. You may just have to change what you are doing off the ship depending on the time of year.
