Long gone are the days when cruising
was the exclusive playground for the very wealthy, elite and tuxedos were required (i.e. stuffy). Modern cruise ships have many options that didn’t exist even a just few years ago, and Royal Caribbean has been a pioneer of this cruise ship innovation.
So what makes cruising on Royal Caribbean different today than 30 years ago?
Here are 5 thoughts:
1- Rock Climbing Walls – Real rock climbing is an adventurous staple filled with danger and excitement. A rock climbing wall brings the same type of excitement, without the danger. And there is nothing quite like a 40 foot climb that takes you 200+ feet above the ocean traveling at 25 knots. It’s exhilarating, fantastically beautiful and safe. This is a must do while on a cruise.
2- Zip-lining – Zip-lining has become a very popular vacation activity. Typically it means flying through the air in a rain forest canopy, but on a cruise ship? Introduced on the Oasis of the Seas, zip-lining brings cruising and adventure together. Imagine being suspended nine stories above the Boardwalk, flying almost 100 feet in the middle of the ocean. After such an exhilarating experience you will probably need to come back “down to earth” sitting by the pool comforted by a frozen drink with an umbrella. On second thought, you may need that drink first!
3- Surfing - Nothing says cruising like surfing. Ok, maybe that is not the first thing you think of with a cruise, but why not? The FlowRider® surf simulator is quite a ride for advanced surfers as well as beginners. With the ocean trailing in the background, and a crowd of surfers (and onlookers) watching your every move, remember the two keys to successful surfing…balance and properly tying your bathing suit. It is a great ride.
4- Ice Skating – There is nothing quite like the cool respite from a hot Caribbean day that a few laps around an ice skating rink can bring. You will momentarily forget you are in the middle of the ocean on a cruise. And be sure to come back for the ice show in the evening. You will be amazed at what these professional skaters can do in such a small area even when the ocean is rocking and rolling.
5- Boleros – If you want the best mojitos or caipirinhas at sea, then Boleros is just what the Latin dancer in you ordered. Boleros is a Latin-themed club with live music, great drinks and one of the best crowds you will find in any club at sea. So whether you like dancing Merengue, Salsa or just like watching it done by those with rhythm , it is one of the most fun night spots on Royal Caribbean cruise.
